Chapter 2 - The Freeze Command

Before Adam could raise his voice to intimidate the young manager, a calm, steady voice cut through the tension at the hostess desk.

"I believe I can verify that signature, Sofia."

Adam completely froze. The arrogant confidence violently drained from his polished features. He slowly turned around to see his 68-year-old mother standing mere inches away.

Margaret didn't scream. She didn't cry. With a terrifying, quiet dignity, she reached out and gently slid the cream-colored authorization document from Sofia’s trembling hands.

Margaret pulled her reading glasses from her tailored navy suit pocket. She slipped them on, her eyes scanning the ink at the bottom of the page. It was a perfect, masterful forgery of her signature, designed to bypass the restaurant's security and drain her limitless private tab.

Adam’s face flushed red. He didn't look embarrassed or apologetic. He looked profoundly irritated that he had been caught.

He leaned in close, his voice dropping into a harsh, commanding whisper.

"Mom, don’t make a scene," Adam hissed, his eyes darting nervously toward his wife’s wealthy family waiting in the lobby. "Just let it go. We’ll talk about it tomorrow."

Margaret slowly removed her glasses. She looked at her son’s panicked face, then shifted her steady, piercing gaze directly to the restaurant manager.
