Chapter 8 - The Massive Bill

"The terrace room is fully prepared, as requested by your forged reservation," Mr. Rossi announced coldly, tapping the screen of his tablet. "Fifteen guests. Beluga caviar appetizers. Three bottles of vintage Dom Pérignon. Wagyu tomahawk steaks and imported truffles."
Vanessa let out a breath of relief, foolishly assuming they were still getting their party.
"However," Mr. Rossi continued, his voice echoing through the lobby. "Since the owner has officially frozen the Founder’s Reserve account, the pre-authorization has been voided. The reception is fully catered and cannot be canceled at this hour."
Mr. Rossi printed a long, itemized receipt from the hostess desk. He walked over and firmly pressed the paper directly against Adam’s chest.
"Your new total is fourteen thousand, six hundred dollars," the General Manager stated loudly. "Payable immediately, out of your own pocket. If the balance is not cleared right now, I will have base security escort you and your fifteen guests out onto the sidewalk."
Adam’s knees physically buckled. He grabbed the receipt, his eyes bugging out of his head as he read the staggering total.
"Fourteen thousand?!" Adam choked out, his voice cracking with sheer, unadulterated panic. He patted his tailored suit jacket, frantically pulling out his own personal credit cards.
He handed the first black card to Sofia. She swiped it. The machine beeped aggressively with a red light. Declined.
He handed her a second card. Swiped. Declined.
