Chapter 4 - The Gala Humiliation

Arthur roughly yanked the delicate silver chain again, the metal biting painfully into the back of Lily's small neck.

"I said take it off!" Arthur whispered aggressively, his dark eyes burning with toxic, arrogant fury as a few nearby guests turned their heads to watch the uncomfortable scene. "You are embarrassing me! I am your father now, and you will obey my rules! He was a weak, pathetic loser who got exactly what he deserved!"

Lily didn't scream. She didn't throw a tantrum.

The brave eight-year-old girl simply grabbed the silver eagle emblem with both of her small hands, pressing it fiercely and desperately against her chest, absolutely refusing to let the cruel man take it from her. Heavy, silent tears filled her bright eyes, streaming down her fair, rosy cheeks, but she held her ground with the quiet, unbreakable stubbornness of a true soldier's daughter.

Arthur’s face twisted into an ugly, violent scowl. He raised his hand, fully intending to forcibly rip the chain completely off her neck and throw the silver eagle directly into the nearest trash can, entirely uncaring if he hurt the little girl in the process.

But before Arthur's hand could even touch the silver metal, a sudden, incredibly loud sound completely shattered the quiet, elegant atmosphere of the luxury event hall.

It wasn't a voice. It wasn't a gunshot.

It was a sharp, incredibly deep, and fiercely commanding bark.

The entire grand hall plunged into a sudden, shocked silence. The wealthy guests stopped drinking. The string quartet completely stopped playing.
