Chapter 8 - The General's Words

Medium close-up: The General stood towering over the arrogant stepfather, his heavily medaled chest radiating the absolute, untouchable authority of the United States military. The General’s eyes were cold, hard, and entirely devoid of mercy as he looked at the man in the tuxedo.
"Touch her again," the General warned, his voice incredibly low, dark, and vibrating with lethal intent, "and I will personally ensure you spend the rest of your pathetic life in a federal military prison."
Arthur physically recoiled, the color completely draining from his arrogant face as he realized he was entirely outmatched.
The General slowly turned his back on the coward. He looked down at the little girl kneeling on the marble floor with the massive German Shepherd. The cold, hardened military commander completely vanished, instantly replaced by a warm, deeply respectful, and incredibly gentle protector.
"He belonged to your father," the General spoke gently, his voice ringing perfectly clear through the absolutely silent, massive luxury hall.
"He... he survived?" Lily whispered through her heavy tears, her small hands gently stroking Titan's thick, dark coat.
"He survived because your father was the bravest, most honorable man I have ever had the absolute privilege of commanding," the General stated loudly, intentionally raising his voice so that every single wealthy, elite guest in the room could hear the absolute truth. "Your father didn't abandon you. He didn't run away. He held the line against impossible odds, and he saved twenty-four American lives that day. He is a hero."
