Chapter 6 - The Arrival

Wide shot: The General didn't issue a command. He didn't need to.
The massive German Shepherd immediately began to run. The powerful dog sprinted straight down the center of the grand, white marble hall, its claws clicking sharply against the polished floor. It entirely ignored the hundreds of wealthy, staring guests, its highly intelligent eyes locked exclusively onto the tiny, eight-year-old girl standing in the light blue dress.
The Four-Star General walked slowly, respectfully, and with immense, heavy dignity directly behind the running dog.
Arthur panicked. He stepped frantically in front of Lily, his black tuxedo blocking the path, desperately trying to shield his "perfect" family image from the chaotic military intrusion.
"General, I demand to know what is going on here!" Arthur stammered nervously, trying to project political authority. "This is a private, exclusive event! You cannot just unleash an animal in here!"
The General didn't even look at the arrogant man in the tuxedo. He didn't acknowledge his existence. The older military man simply kept walking, his eyes fixed entirely on the weeping little girl.
The German Shepherd didn't stop. The massive dog expertly, seamlessly dodged entirely around Arthur, completely bypassing the cruel stepfather as if he were nothing more than a minor obstacle in the road.
The dog reached the edge of the marble dance floor and immediately skidded to a halt directly in front of Lily.

The massive animal didn't jump. It didn't act aggressively. It immediately sat completely down on the marble floor, looking up at the eight-year-old girl with an incredibly soft, deeply soulful, and entirely familiar expression. It let out a quiet, gentle whine.
