Chapter 22 - the midnight ambush

The freezing rain lashed against the shattered glass of the armored SUV as the massive, reinforced truck violently forced it off the remote coastal road. The devastating impact plunged the quiet night into absolute, deafening chaos.
Four heavily armed mercenaries wearing dark tactical gear poured out of the truck, their assault rifles raised, aiming to drag the queen of the Moretti empire out of the wreckage.
Inside the damaged vehicle, Emily didn't panic or scream for help. The grief of losing Dante had hardened her soul into absolute, impenetrable steel. She calmly kicked the jammed door open, pulling a sleek, loaded tactical sidearm from her tailored jacket.
Before the lead mercenary could aim his weapon, Emily moved with breathtaking, cinematic precision. She fired two highly calculated shots, dropping the closest attackers instantly to the freezing asphalt.
Her elite security detail, trailing in a backup vehicle, swarmed the perimeter seconds later, returning fire with lethal accuracy. The remaining mercenaries panicked and fled into the dark treeline.
