Chapter 23 - the intelligence chief

Emily relocated her base of operations to the heavily fortified subterranean bunker beneath the Manhattan estate. She didn't rely on the FBI or standard law enforcement. She was the greatest Head of Intelligence the syndicate had ever known, and she intended to hunt the phantoms herself.
"They used military-grade thermal cloaking," her security captain, Marcus, reported, his face glowing in the harsh blue light of the digital monitors. "The truck was untraceable. We have absolutely no digital footprint."
Emily stood behind the massive oak table, her mind calculating every single variable with terrifying speed. "There is always a footprint, Marcus. They communicated during the ambush. Trace the encrypted satellite burst from the exact moment of the crash."
For six agonizing hours, Emily and her elite team of hackers scoured the dark web. They finally intercepted a fragmented Russian audio file confirming the failed extraction.
