Chapter 6 - The Digital Guillotine

Carlo froze, his gun suspended in mid-air. He looked at the three laser sights locked onto his skull, entirely paralyzed by the catastrophic failure of his master plan.

"Drop the weapon, Carlo," Dante whispered, a dark, demonic promise of violence vibrating in his tone.

The heavy handgun slipped from Carlo’s trembling fingers, clattering uselessly against the hardwood floor. His corrupt guards immediately raised their hands in absolute surrender, terrified of the executioners surrounding them.

"Dante, we can negotiate!" Carlo begged, completely abandoning his powerful cartel persona. "I'll give the southern ports back! I'll pay you a penalty! Just let me walk out of here!"

Dante slowly adjusted his black suit jacket.

"You don't own the southern ports anymore, Carlo," Dante stated smoothly.

Carlo frowned, lethal confusion breaking through his panic. "What are you talking about?"

"While you were busy conspiring with my wife," Dante explained, his dark eyes turning pitch black, "my cyber-team accessed your cartel’s encrypted offshore servers. You gave Isabella the authorization codes to merge our accounts. We just used those codes in reverse."

All the color violently drained from Carlo’s bearded face.

"We seized every single dollar your cartel owns," Dante announced to the silent room. "We liquidated your holding companies. We drained your trust funds. You are completely, permanently bankrupt."

Carlo let out a horrific, guttural wail of pure agony, dropping to his knees.
