Chapter 3 - The Broken Contract

"Elizabeth, wait!" Sebastian barked, finally pushing Victoria away.
His arrogant facade cracked as he realized she was actually leaving. He took a frantic step forward, his black suit catching the bright sunlight. He couldn't let her walk out. The financial stakes were entirely too high.
"You can't just walk out!" Sebastian yelled aggressively across the quiet penthouse. "We have a billion-dollar corporate merger tied to this marriage! Your father’s company will go completely bankrupt if you walk out that door!"
Elizabeth stopped dead in her tracks.
She slowly turned around. Her white lace gown flowed elegantly over the marble floor. She looked at the man she had loved for three years. She had known about his "friendship" with Victoria, but he had sworn to her it was entirely platonic. He had sworn he loved only her. But today, seeing them together, she finally understood the horrifying truth: she wasn't a beloved bride. She was just a corporate hostage.
"My father's company isn't going bankrupt, Sebastian," Elizabeth stated coldly, her voice echoing off the floor-to-ceiling windows.
Victoria sneered, stepping up beside Sebastian, wrapping her arm around his waist. "Oh, please. Your family is drowning in debt. Sebastian is doing you a favor by marrying you. Now sit down and play the good little wife."
Elizabeth completely ignored the mistress. She reached her hand into the hidden silk pocket sewn into the lining of her expensive wedding gown.
She pulled out a small, sleek black USB drive.

"You didn't want this marriage for the merger, Sebastian," Elizabeth said smoothly, holding the drive up. "You wanted it for the spousal immunity clause."
