Chapter 9 - The Father's Pride

The chaotic, frantic energy completely evaporated from the penthouse.

Elizabeth looked down at the white rose bouquet still lying on the polished marble floor. She didn't pick it up. She let out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of the betrayal was finally, completely lifted from her shoulders. She had protected her family's company. She had completely destroyed the monster.

Suddenly, her father, a distinguished older man in a sharp suit, walked up behind her. He didn't look angry about the canceled wedding. He didn't look embarrassed. He looked incredibly, profoundly proud.

"Are you okay, Lizzie?" her father asked softly, placing a warm, protective hand on her shoulder.

"I am, Dad," Elizabeth smiled warmly, genuine tears of absolute joy and pure relief finally falling from her eyes. "I really am."

"You saved our company today," her father smiled back, gently kissing her forehead. "The board of directors just voted to sever all ties with Sebastian's firm. We are completely free of him, and our assets are entirely protected."

Elizabeth turned to look at the beautiful city skyline. She wasn't a broken, humiliated bride crying over a lost relationship. She was a brilliant, highly educated woman who had just executed a flawless corporate takedown while wearing a wedding dress.
