Chapter 2 - The Cold Rejection

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, paralyzing tension gripped the head table.
Evelyn remained perfectly still in her gold chair. The sixty-year-old matriarch didn't burst into tears or beg for her home. She simply looked up at Claire with cold, unbroken, titanium composure. She had survived thirty years in the cutthroat corporate world; a greedy bride in a white lace dress didn't intimidate her in the slightest.
"My home is not a wedding present, Claire," Evelyn stated. Her voice was remarkably calm, but it carried a sharp, lethal edge that instantly dropped the temperature in the room.
Daniel, terrified of losing his inheritance and desperate to avoid a massive public scandal, quickly stepped forward. His face was entirely pale as he grabbed his new wife’s arm, trying to physically pull her back from the table.
"Mom, please," Daniel whispered nervously, his eyes darting frantically toward the wealthy guests staring at them. "It's our wedding. Let’s just talk about the estate arrangements tomorrow."
Evelyn completely ignored her son. She turned her head slightly, looking past the panicked groom.
Without raising her voice, she spoke with absolute, unquestionable authority to a massive private security guard standing off-screen near the ballroom doors.
"Call the police," Evelyn commanded firmly. "Arrest the trespassers."

👉 Claire grabbed her phone, and the text message she read made her blood run absolutely ice cold.
