Chapter 6 - The Quick Escape

"You idiot!" Claire shrieked hysterically, completely turning on her new husband.

She violently kicked Daniel away, her white lace dress tangling around her legs as she scrambled backward. The thirty-something bride didn't look at him with love or sympathy; she looked at him with pure, unfiltered disgust.

"I am not staying married to a broke, unemployed loser!" Claire screamed, ripping her expensive diamond veil out of her blonde hair and throwing it aggressively onto the floor. "I am annulling this pathetic marriage tomorrow morning!"

Claire turned on her expensive heels, preparing to sprint out of the grand ballroom and completely abandon her ruined wedding. She needed to get to the estate and bail her trespassing parents out of jail before the media caught wind of the massive scandal.

But as she took her first step, the heavy mahogany doors of the ballroom swung open.

Three uniformed police officers marched directly into the elegant reception. They didn't look at the confused, wealthy guests. They marched straight toward the head table.

"Claire Vance?" the lead officer barked loudly, his hand resting firmly on his utility belt.

Claire froze, her heart hammering violently against her ribs. "It's Claire Sterling! I'm getting an annulment! I didn't do anything!"

"Claire Sterling," the officer corrected coldly. "You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit grand larceny, corporate wire fraud, and felony trespassing."

👉 Claire screamed in apocalyptic terror as the heavy steel handcuffs were violently snapped around her wrists.
