Chapter 7 - The Arrest

"No! Get your hands off me!" Claire wailed hysterically, thrashing wildly against the officers' iron grip.

Her expensive white strapless lace dress twisted awkwardly as the massive officers forcefully twisted her arms behind her back. The heavy steel handcuffs snapped loudly around her wrists, completely stripping her of her freedom, her pride, and her fake high-society status.

"Daniel, do something!" Claire screamed desperately, tears of pure terror finally ruining her flawless makeup. "Tell them I’m your wife! Tell them I had permission!"

Daniel didn't move. He knelt on the floor in his dark tuxedo, completely paralyzed, staring blankly at the woman he thought loved him. He finally realized she had only ever seen him as a walking, breathing ATM machine.

Evelyn stepped forward, her silver necklace catching the warm light of the chandeliers.

"She didn't have permission to forge my signature on the wire transfers, Officer," Evelyn stated firmly, looking dead into Claire's panicking eyes. "I will be pressing full charges on behalf of the Vance Master Trust."

The wealthy wedding guests watched in absolute, stunned silence as the screaming, humiliated bride was forcefully dragged backward through her own reception. Claire sobbed uncontrollably as she was hauled out of the grand ballroom, completely humiliated in front of the city's most powerful elites.

The heavy mahogany doors slammed shut, instantly bringing a profound, heavy peace back to the room.
