Chapter 8 - The Mother's Lesson

The chaotic, toxic energy was entirely dragged out of the grand hotel ballroom.

Evelyn didn't rush over to comfort her weeping son. She stood perfectly upright in her navy blue lace dress, staring down at the pathetic thirty-something man who had almost cost them their entire empire.

"Get up, Daniel," Evelyn commanded coldly.

Daniel slowly pushed himself off the floor, his dark tuxedo completely wrinkled, tears streaming down his face. "Mom... I'm so sorry. I didn't know. I swear I didn't know she was just using me for the money."

"You didn't know because you chose to be blind," Evelyn replied, her voice completely devoid of sympathy. "I warned you about her six months ago. I told you her family's finances were suspicious. But you were too arrogant to listen. You thought you were smarter than the woman who built this entire empire."

Daniel swallowed hard, utterly stripped of his pride. "What happens now?"

"Now, you face the consequences," Evelyn stated clinically. "The board of directors' termination stands. You will not receive a single cent from the master trust. You are going to move out of your luxury penthouse tomorrow, and you are going to get a normal, entry-level job. You will learn the actual value of a dollar."

Daniel nodded weakly, completely broken. He knew he had no leverage left.

Evelyn turned to the silent, terrified wedding guests.
