Chapter 4 - The Search

David walked quietly down the hallway toward the master bedroom. His sharp, masculine jawline was locked tight.

Downstairs, he could hear Amber frantically washing dishes, the clinking of glass masking his footsteps.

He stepped into the luxurious master bedroom and closed the door without making a sound. He didn't tear the room apart. He moved with cold, calculating precision. He checked the closets, the drawers, and behind the expensive vanity. Nothing.

Then, he knelt on the plush carpet and shined his phone flashlight under the massive king-sized bed.

Pushed against the very back corner, hidden behind a storage bin, was a small designer shopping bag.

David reached under the bed and pulled it out.

Inside the bag were three brightly colored, fuzzy plush caterpillar toys. Exactly what Noah had described. Richard had brought cheap toys to distract a five-year-old child while he violated David’s home and destroyed his marriage.

But the toys weren't the only thing hidden inside the bag.

Resting at the bottom, wrapped in a velvet cloth, was a thick, heavy manila folder and a sleek black burner phone.

David’s breath caught in his throat. He set the fuzzy caterpillars on the bed and slowly opened the heavy folder.

👉 David expected to find love letters, but the documents inside revealed a conspiracy far more evil than a simple affair.
