Chapter 8 - The Digital Guillotine

The cinematic tension in the boardroom peaked to a suffocating level.
Richard looked at the fuzzy toys, all the color draining from his face. He physically staggered backward, bumping into the wall.
“I thought you might want to return these to my son,” David stated coldly, his voice echoing in the silent room.
“David, listen to me!” Amber shrieked, completely abandoning her elegant facade. She jumped out of her chair, tears of pure, unadulterated panic flooding her eyes. “It’s a misunderstanding! I can explain everything!”
“Explain what, Amber?” David asked softly, entirely immune to her fake tears. He pulled the thick manila folder from his jacket and slammed it violently onto the table. “The affair? Or the offshore wire fraud?”
Richard began to sweat profusely. Driven by pure, animalistic desperation, he lunged toward his laptop to delete the transfer files.
“Don't bother,” David commanded, his deep voice slicing through the air like a blade. “I spent the entire weekend with my security engineers. We reversed the routing codes. Every single dollar you tried to steal from my company was automatically redirected back into my private, locked accounts.”
Richard’s knees buckled.
“And while we were at it,” David continued ruthlessly, “I had my team empty your personal investment portfolios. You are entirely, completely bankrupt, Richard.”
