Chapter 2 - The Dying Father

The cinematic realism of the absolute, paralyzing tension completely electrified the hospital suite.
A medium shot captured Lucia slowly turning her head. She glanced back at the heavy hospital bed resting quietly in the background of the luxurious suite. Lying there was her father, Teo, a frail seventy-something man with gray hair and a gray beard, wearing a pale hospital gown. He was unconscious, hooked up to a dozen high-tech medical machines.
To understand the absolute, crushing desperation of the young bride, one had to look at the massive medical debt actively suffocating her.
Lucia’s father needed a multi-million-dollar, highly experimental heart transplant to survive. Lucia was a brilliant but broke architect who had exhausted every single loan and credit card she had. When the hospital threatened to discharge him due to unpaid bills, Reed, the ruthless CEO of the city's largest real estate empire, had suddenly stepped out of the shadows with a horrifying proposition.
He offered to pay the two-million-dollar medical bill in full, immediately.
In exchange, Lucia had to sign a three-year contract marriage, providing him with a flawless, perfectly obedient society wife to secure a massive inheritance clause from his conservative grandfather's will.
Lucia took a slow, heavy breath, blinking back her tears, and looked directly at the legal document.

"Then it's a deal," Lucia whispered, forcefully signing her name on the dotted line.
👉 Reed pulled the contract away, delivering a final, freezing warning that shattered the young bride's heart.
