Chapter 3 - The Cold Warning

The heavy gold pen slipped from Lucia's trembling fingers, clattering loudly onto the dark wooden table.

Reed immediately snatched the signed contract, handing it seamlessly to Denise, his thirty-something assistant wearing a sharp black business suit in the background. Denise quickly placed the document into an encrypted briefcase and walked out of the suite, sealing the massive trap.

A tight close-up captured Reed leaning in even closer to his new wife. He didn't offer a comforting smile. He didn't hold her hand.

"But I will never be a real husband," Reed whispered, his deep voice dropping to a low, freezing frequency that was utterly, completely devoid of warmth. "This is a business transaction. You will live in my penthouse, you will attend my galas, and you will play the perfect wife in public. But behind closed doors, we are nothing."

Lucia physically flinched, the harsh reality of her new life violently setting in.

She wasn't a bride. She was a purchased asset.

For the next six months, Reed kept his cold, ruthless promise. Lucia lived in his massive, multi-million-dollar penthouse, completely isolated in a guest bedroom. Reed was a terrifying corporate titan who worked until midnight, barely speaking a dozen words to her outside of their fake, smiling public appearances. He paid for her father's successful surgery exactly as promised, but he treated Lucia like an invisible ghost in her own home.

👉 Lucia decided to clean his private office, completely unaware she was about to trigger an apocalyptic revelation.
