Chapter 1 - The Lethal Prescription

The morning sunlight poured through the floor-to-ceiling windows of the luxury American penthouse, illuminating a breathtaking view of the city skyline. Inside, the atmosphere was completely silent, tense, and heavy with unspoken power.

Damian Cross stood near the center of the massive bedroom. The thirty-something mafia boss wore an unbuttoned black dress shirt, exposing the heavy, intricate syndicate tattoos crawling across his muscular chest. He held a small, clear glass of water in one hand and a white pill in the other. He was recovering from a brutal cartel ambush, and this daily medication was the only thing keeping his heart functioning.

He raised the white pill toward his lips.

"Don't take that!"

The urgent, high-pitched scream shattered the quiet elegance of the penthouse.

Damian froze. His dark, calculating eyes snapped toward the doorway.

Standing there was six-year-old Sophia, wearing a light pink dress. She wasn't playing. Her small face was entirely serious and observant, her eyes locked onto the pill in his hand.

Behind her, her mother Alina—a young woman in her twenties wearing a crisp black and white maid uniform—rushed into the room, her face completely drained of color. Alina grabbed her daughter by the shoulders in sheer, unadulterated terror, pulling the child back.
