Chapter 4 - The Traitor's Pivot

The heavy steel deadbolts on the penthouse doors slammed shut with a resounding, inescapable echo.

Damian slowly turned around. The cold, terrifying aura of the mafia boss completely dominated the room. But as he looked down at Sophia, the darkness in his eyes momentarily vanished, replaced by an intense, overwhelming protective gratitude.

"You just saved my life," Damian whispered softly to the little girl.

Marcus, the tall security guard in the dark suit, felt a cold sweat break out on the back of his neck. He had personally swapped the pills ten minutes ago, paid off by a rival cartel to ensure Damian never recovered from his previous injuries. He thought the plan was flawless. He had vastly underestimated the observant eyes of a child.

Knowing the entire building was now locked down and Damian was going to interrogate everyone, Marcus decided to strike first.

"Boss," Marcus said, his voice loud and artificially firm as he stepped forward. "The only person who had access to your morning tray was the maid."

Alina gasped, her hands flying to her mouth in absolute horror.

"She brought the water. She carried the medicine bottle," Marcus continued, pointing an accusing finger directly at Alina. "She's been working here for six months, plenty of time for a rival family to buy her off. She tried to poison you, and her kid got confused and ruined the plan."

👉 Alina was completely trapped by the bodyguard’s vicious lie, and Marcus was about to pull his weapon to silence her forever.
