Chapter 6 - The Little Witness

Marcus slowly, reluctantly lowered the pistol, but he didn't holster it. The muscles in his jaw tight with cornered panic. "Then who did it, Boss? Nobody else touches that tray."

Sophia let go of her mother’s black and white uniform. The brave little girl in the pink dress took one step forward, pointing her tiny finger right at the tall security guard.

"You did," Sophia said, her voice crystal clear in the heavy silence.

Marcus completely froze.

"I saw you," Sophia continued, her innocent brown eyes staring directly at the towering man. "When Mommy was washing the glasses in the sink, you walked up to the cart. You opened the little orange bottle and put a different white candy inside. I saw you from the hallway."

The entire room stopped breathing.

All color drained from Marcus’s face. The arrogant, composed bodyguard facade completely shattered. He had been caught red-handed by a six-year-old.

"She's lying!" Marcus roared, panic totally hijacking his nervous system. He violently raised his pistol again, this time aiming it directly at the little girl, entirely willing to murder a child to save his own skin. "She's covering for her mother!"
