Chapter 9 - The Digital Confession

Damian didn't say a word. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his encrypted smartphone.
He opened the private security application, navigating to the hidden camera network he had personally installed after the first assassination attempt months ago. He pulled up the 4K video feed from the bronze clock, rewinding the timestamp to exactly fifteen minutes prior.
He turned the screen around, holding it up so Marcus could clearly see his own reflection.
The crystal-clear video played perfectly. It showed Alina turning her back to wash glasses at the sink. It showed Marcus creeping up to the tray, looking over his shoulder, pulling a small vial from his suit pocket, and deliberately swapping the pills.
The ultimate, undeniable proof of absolute treason.
"No... no, please," Marcus whimpered, his arrogant defiance crumbling into pathetic, weeping terror as he scrambled backward on the floor. "The Navarro cartel paid me! I didn't want to do it! They threatened my family!"
Damian slowly slipped the phone back into his pocket. His face was a mask of cold, merciless stone.
"You sold me out," Damian said quietly. "And you tried to murder an innocent mother and her child to cover your tracks. There is no hole deep enough for you to hide in."

Damian snapped his fingers. The remaining loyal guards stormed into the room, grabbing the screaming, crying traitor by the arms and dragging him out of the penthouse, destined for the dark, subterranean holding cells beneath the city.
