Chapter 2 - The Haunted Voice

The cinematic realism of the suffocating, heavy tension instantly paralyzed the entire restaurant.
A medium shot captured Jason turning around in his booth. The former deputy looked completely confused. He saw the massive mess of shattered plates on the floor and the trembling waitress standing perfectly still. He thought he had startled her, completely unaware of the apocalyptic revelation rushing through her mind.
Amanda stood frozen before him. She aggressively covered her mouth with one trembling hand in absolute, breathless disbelief, clutching the empty black tray tightly under her arm like a physical shield.
"Say that again," Amanda whispered, her voice cracking with raw, undeniable emotion.
A tight close-up focused entirely on Jason’s face. He looked up at her, deeply unnerved and confused by her intense, tearful stare. He had absolutely no idea who this woman was.
"Ma'am?" Jason asked smoothly, his dark eyebrows furrowing. "Are you alright? I didn't mean to startle you."
But Amanda wasn't startled. A close-up captured her slowly lowering her hand from her mouth. Her natural micro-expressions shifted violently from sheer, breathless shock to overwhelming, fierce gratitude. She was staring directly at the man who had haunted his own conscience for seven agonizing years.
