Chapter 5 - The Unmasking

Enzo stopped just inches away from Clara. His towering frame cast a heavy shadow over her, his dangerous suspicion peaking.

"Who exactly are you, Clara?" Enzo demanded, his voice dark, heavy, and vibrating with a lethal edge.

Clara didn't flinch. She didn't lower her head like a terrified servant. She looked directly into Enzo's dangerous dark eyes, meeting the gaze of the most feared man in New York without a single ounce of hesitation. The brilliant undercover doctor finally revealed her true strength.

"The only doctor who can actually save her," Clara replied, her voice steady and fearless.

She reached into the deep pocket of her white maid apron and pulled out a laminated hospital ID badge, slapping it firmly onto the marble table next to them.

"Dr. Clara Vance," she stated. "Head of Pediatric Neurology at Johns Hopkins. Six months ago, my mentor, Dr. Aris, tried to contact you about anomalies in Sophia’s bloodwork. He was killed in a 'hit-and-run' two days later."

Enzo’s breath caught. He remembered Dr. Aris.

"I knew someone inside your impenetrable house was being paid to keep your daughter in this chair," Clara continued, her eyes blazing with righteous fury. "And I knew if I knocked on your front door with a medical bag, I'd end up dead too. So, I faked my resume, bought a pink dress, and spent the last four months scrubbing your floors just so I could secretly swap out Sophia's poisoned pills with actual vitamins."

👉 Clara had risked her life to save his daughter, but the cornered nurse was about to make a desperate, deadly move.
