Chapter 7 - The Rival's Plot

"I didn't want to!" Claire sobbed hysterically, her face pressed against the cold marble, tears ruining her makeup. "They made me do it!"
Enzo increased the pressure of his shoe just slightly. The nurse wailed in pain.
"Who?" Enzo demanded, his navy blue three-piece suit shifting as he leaned over his prey.
"The Falcone family!" Claire screamed, completely selling out her employers to save her own life. "They paid me fifty thousand a month! They said... they said as long as you were consumed by grief over your crippled daughter, you wouldn't focus on the shipping ports! They knew she was your only weakness!"
Clara stood by the wheelchair, her hands resting protectively on Sophia’s small shoulders. She covered the little girl’s ears, shielding her from the horrific reality of the mafia underworld.
Enzo’s eyes turned absolutely pitch black. His rivals hadn't just attacked his business; they had stolen two years of his daughter's childhood. They had forced his beautiful, energetic little girl to sit in a black wheelchair, watching other children run in the sun, all for a piece of territory.
"Take her downstairs," Enzo commanded, not even raising his voice.

The heavy mahogany doors of the sunroom swung open. Two massive security guards, who had sprinted toward the room upon hearing the commotion, stepped inside. They grabbed the sobbing nurse by her white uniform, dragging her violently out of the room.
👉 The traitor was gone, leaving the terrifying mafia boss entirely alone with the undercover doctor who had fooled him.
