Chapter 8 - The Father's Gratitude

The heavy doors clicked shut, plunging the sunlit room back into a tense, profound silence.
Enzo slowly turned away from the doorway. His broad chest heaved as he fought to control the adrenaline and murderous rage violently coursing through his veins. He looked at the wheelchair.
Sophia was looking up at him, her enormous brown eyes wide with innocence. "Daddy? Is Nurse Claire a bad guy?"
Enzo’s terrifying aura completely melted. He dropped to his knees on the marble floor, completely ignoring the sharp creases of his tailored suit. He reached out with trembling hands and gently cupped his daughter’s cheeks.
"She was, Principessa," Enzo whispered, his voice cracking with heavy, restrained emotion. "But she's gone now. And you... you stood up."
"Clara helped me!" Sophia beamed, pointing a small finger at the woman in the pink dress. "She gave me special candies instead of the bitter ones. And my legs woke up!"
Enzo slowly lifted his gaze. He looked at Clara.
For four months, he had treated her like a ghost. He had walked past her in the hallways without a second glance. Yet, this woman had sacrificed her prestigious career, scrubbed his toilets, and risked violent retribution just to save a little girl she didn't even know.
