Chapter 5 - The Stolen Life

Clara whimpered in pain, desperately trying to pull Elise’s manicured claws out of her hair.

Six years ago, Clara had been in a horrific car accident. She had woken up from a two-month coma with severe amnesia, only remembering fragments of her life and the beautiful lullaby she had written for the baby she was pregnant with.

Elise, who was Clara's estranged step-sister, had sat by her hospital bed and delivered the devastating news: Clara’s baby had died in the crash. Elise claimed she had paid for the funeral and the hospital bills. Clara had spent the last six years mourning a child she thought was buried in an unmarked grave, living in absolute poverty while Elise mysteriously became a millionaire socialite.

"I won't tell him anything!" Clara sobbed, tears streaming down her pale face. "Just let me leave! I don't want any trouble!"

"You're right, you won't tell him anything," Elise sneered, finally letting go of Clara's hair and aggressively wiping her hands on her silver dress. "Because you are a thief. And no one believes a thief."

Meanwhile, up in the master executive office, Victor was pacing like a caged predator. His mind was racing. The official story Elise had fed him six years ago was that she was the one who had nursed him when he was temporarily blinded. Elise claimed her sister, Clara, had died in the crash, and Elise had heroically saved the baby.

But Elise didn't know the lullaby. She claimed she forgot the words due to trauma.

Victor was no fool. The moment he heard the maid's voice, the puzzle pieces violently clicked into place.

Victor pressed the intercom button on his desk. "Marcus. Bring me the crystal glass the blonde maid was cleaning in the kitchen. Run the saliva for a rapid DNA test against Leo's profile. Tell the lab I will pay them a million dollars to have the results in one hour."
