Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Liar

"What are you talking about, Victor?" Elise stammered, all the color draining from her face. She took a step back, her hands trembling violently.

Victor turned to the crowd, holding up the lab report.

"Six years ago, I was blinded in a crash," Victor announced, his voice echoing off the crystal chandeliers. "A woman nursed me back to health. She sang a beautiful lullaby to me in the dark. She was carrying my child. But when I regained my sight, Elise told me the woman had died in childbirth, and presented herself as the one who saved me."

The wealthy guests gasped, covering their mouths in shock.

Victor turned his lethal gaze back to Elise. "I just got off the phone with the head of the DNA lab. The results were expedited. The DNA from this maid’s glass is a 99.9% biological match to my son."

Clara’s heart stopped. She looked up at Victor, her blue eyes wide with impossible disbelief. "My... my baby?"

"He didn't die, Clara," Victor said, his voice cracking with emotion as he looked at the woman he had loved in the dark all those years ago. "Elise paid the doctors to fake the death certificate. She kidnapped our son, told you he was dead, and lied to me for six years to secure her place in my empire."

Elise let out a hysterical, desperate scream. "He's lying! The lab made a mistake! She’s a thief! She planted the necklace!"

"I saw you plant it," a small voice echoed.

Everyone turned. Little Leo was standing on the grand staircase, looking down at Elise with cold, disgusted eyes. "I saw you put the shiny necklace in her bag when she was crying in the kitchen."
