Chapter 7 - The Lab Results

The flashing red and blue lights of the police cruisers illuminated the massive glass windows of the gala ballroom. Four armed police officers marched into the room, their heavy boots echoing on the marble floor.
"Is this the suspect?" the lead officer asked, pulling out a pair of cold steel handcuffs.
"Yes, Officer," Elise smiled triumphantly, adjusting her elegant silver dress. "She infiltrated this gala, terrorized my future stepson, and stole my jewelry. Take this trash away."
The officer grabbed Clara by the arms, violently pulling her up from the floor. Clara didn't even fight back. She just hung her head, completely broken, the tears falling silently onto her dirty black and white uniform.
Elise let out a deep, satisfying breath. She had won. The empire was hers.
Suddenly, the heavy mahogany doors of the master office on the balcony above burst open.
Victor stormed out, his muscular chest heaving beneath his open black suit. His phone was clutched tightly in his tattooed hand. His eyes were burning with a lethal, absolute fury that made the entire ballroom freeze in terror.
"Let her go!" Victor’s voice roared like thunder, shattering the quiet murmurs of the crowd.
He marched down the grand staircase, his presence so dominant and terrifying that the police officers instinctively stepped back, loosening their grip on Clara.
"Victor, darling, what are you doing?" Elise panicked, her fake smile trembling. "She's a criminal! She stole from us!"
Victor didn't look at Elise. He walked straight up to Clara. He looked down at the bruised, crying maid, his intense eyes softening with a profound, crushing sorrow.
He slowly reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a folded piece of medical paper.
