Chapter 6 - The Digital Betrayal

Marcus gasped for air, his face pressed agonizingly against the cold glass. He heard Victoria’s desperate, pathetic lie, and a bitter, bloodied smile crossed his face.
“She’s lying, Boss,” Marcus choked out, staring directly into Dante’s pitch-black eyes. “She let me in through the service gate. Check my left pocket.”
Dante didn't let go of Marcus’s throat. He reached into the underboss’s tailored suit jacket and pulled out a heavy, folded legal document.
Dante threw the paper onto the glass coffee table with his free hand. It unfolded perfectly.
It was a revised Last Will and Testament, carrying Dante’s forged signature, transferring complete control of the Falcone syndicate, the real estate, and the offshore accounts directly to Victoria.
“She promised me thirty percent of the empire if I slipped the poison into your whiskey tonight,” Marcus confessed, completely abandoning any loyalty to the treacherous fiancée. “She wanted you dead before the wedding so she wouldn't have to sign the prenuptial agreement.”
The cinematic realism of the absolute, apocalyptic betrayal took the breath out of the room.
Victoria hadn't just been arrogant; she had meticulously planned to assassinate the most powerful man in the city and steal his entire kingdom.
“No! It’s a forgery!” Victoria wept hysterically, dropping to her knees on the marble floor. Her white designer dress pooled around her as she tried to crawl toward Dante. “The maid planted it! Rosa is trying to frame me because she wants you for herself!”
Dante finally released Marcus, letting the broken underboss collapse onto the floor.
