Chapter 9 - The Rightful Place

The chaotic, violent energy completely evaporated from the massive estate.
Dante instructed his guards to clear the hallway. Within minutes, the grand marble corridor was completely quiet, illuminated only by the warm glow of the golden wall lights.
Rosa was still standing near the door, holding Sophia tightly against her white apron. She was trembling slightly from the adrenaline of the afternoon. She had just witnessed the absolute destruction of a billionaire's fiancée. She expected Dante to simply thank her and send her back to the kitchens.
Dante walked slowly toward them.
The cold, terrifying executioner completely vanished. He looked exhausted, but his dark eyes were filled with a profound, overwhelming respect. He didn't look at Rosa like a maid. He looked at her like an equal.
He dropped to one knee right on the polished marble floor, entirely ignoring his expensive black suit, and looked directly into Sophia’s big, expressive eyes.
“You saved my life today, Sophia,” Dante whispered softly, his deep voice filled with genuine, undeniable gratitude. “You are the bravest girl I have ever met.”
Sophia smiled brightly, holding up her purple crayon. “I told you he stepped on it.”
Dante chuckled, a real, warm sound that brought tears to Rosa’s eyes. He gently took the purple crayon and placed it safely into his suit jacket pocket, treating it like a priceless artifact.
