Chapter 10 - The True Family

Vincent gently scooped his exhausted wife into his arms, carrying her easily up the stone steps and through the grand front doors of the mansion.
As they stepped into the black and white marble hallway, a tiny voice echoed from the top of the sweeping staircase.
"Daddy?"
Vincent stopped. Elena gasped, her eyes flying open.
Standing at the top of the stairs, holding her black binoculars, was little Josie.
Elena struggled out of Vincent’s arms, her bare feet hitting the marble. "Josie... my baby."
Josie dropped the binoculars. For two years, Gianna had told her that her mother was an angel in the sky. But the little girl didn't hesitate. She sprinted down the massive staircase as fast as her tiny legs could carry her.
Elena fell to her knees, opening her arms wide. Josie crashed into her chest, wrapping her small arms tightly around her mother's neck.
"Mommy!" Josie cried joyfully, burying her face in Elena's shoulder.
Elena wept uncontrollably, holding her daughter with a fierce, protective love that no asylum and no villain could ever break. Vincent knelt down beside them, wrapping his massive arms around both his wife and his daughter, completely shielding his world.
In the months that followed, Gianna was sentenced to fifty years in a federal penitentiary for kidnapping, medical fraud, and extortion, left to rot in absolute isolation.

Elena slowly regained her strength, surrounded by the finest doctors and a husband who never left her side. The dark, agonizing nightmare was finally over. The family was restored, stronger and more fiercely protective than ever before, all because a brave little five-year-old girl decided to use her binoculars.
Do you think Gianna’s fifty-year sentence in a federal prison was enough justice, or did she deserve to face the wrath of the syndicate instead?
