Chapter 4 - The Tactical Silence

Vincent didn't scream. He didn't smash the antique vases in the hallway. The sheer magnitude of the betrayal bypassed normal anger and settled deep into his bones as a cold, merciless, and absolutely terrifying executioner's focus.
He carefully folded the letter and put the stack of white envelopes directly into the inner pocket of his black vest.
He couldn't confront Gianna right now. If he tipped his hand, she might make a single phone call and have Elena quietly executed before he could find her.
Vincent pulled out his encrypted smartphone. He walked into his soundproof home office and locked the heavy oak doors. He dialed his most trusted, ruthless lieutenant, Marcus.
"Marcus," Vincent said, his voice a low, vibrating rumble of pure danger. "I need you to trace a postal routing number from a local post office. Find the exact geographical origin of this mail."
"Boss, it's 10 PM. What's going on?" Marcus asked, sensing the lethal tension in his boss's voice.
"Gianna faked the crash," Vincent stated coldly. "Elena is alive. She's being held in a private facility."
The line went dead silent. Marcus had been utterly loyal to Elena. "Give me twenty minutes, Boss. I'll find the facility, and I'll assemble the tactical strike team. We will burn it to the ground."
"No casualties until Elena is secured," Vincent ordered smoothly. "I am going to sit down and have a glass of wine with Gianna. Text me the second my wife is safely in your armored car."

Vincent hung up the phone. He adjusted his silver watch, forced a calm, relaxed expression onto his handsome face, and walked out to the living room to face the monster.
