Chapter 3 - The Ghost's Handwriting

Vincent’s hands shook violently. The man who commanded an entire criminal empire, a man who never showed fear, was completely paralyzed by a simple piece of white paper.

He brutally tore the envelope open. A single, folded sheet of lined notebook paper fell into his hands.

“Please. If anyone finds this, tell Vincent Moretti I am alive. They are keeping me heavily medicated. I don’t know where I am. Gianna comes once a month to pay the doctors. Please, I just want to see my little girl again. I am so scared.”

Vincent’s heart stopped dead in his chest.

A guttural, agonizing wave of realization crashed over him, tearing his soul to shreds.

Two years ago, Vincent had been out of the country on business. Gianna, who was Elena’s supposed "best friend" at the time, had volunteered to drive Elena to a spa weekend. Gianna had returned sobbing, claiming the car was run off the road and burst into flames, and that she had barely escaped while Elena was trapped inside.

The police found remains. The dental records matched. Vincent had buried a closed casket, his entire world completely destroyed. Gianna had been the one to comfort him, to help raise Josie, to slowly wedge herself into his bed and his empire.

But it was all a meticulously crafted, demonic lie.

Gianna had faked the dental records. She had dragged an unconscious Elena out of the car, staged the fiery crash, and locked Vincent’s wife in a private, corrupt psychiatric facility to steal his fortune and his life.

The white envelopes weren't blackmail. They were Elena’s desperate pleas for help, smuggled out by a guilty nurse, which Gianna had been intercepting from the mansion’s private mailbox every single week.
