Chapter 6 - The Secret Daughter

The chaotic, violent energy was entirely dragged out of the beautiful marble hallway.

Gabriel didn't care about the wealthy guests staring at him. He signaled for his remaining guards to close the heavy ballroom doors, completely sealing off the hallway.

He was finally alone with Olivia and Lily.

Gabriel slowly crouched down on the cold marble floor, completely ruining his expensive dark charcoal suit. He didn't look like a terrifying mafia boss anymore. He looked like a profoundly broken, desperate man.

Olivia was still kneeling on the floor, holding her daughter tightly.

"Olivia," Gabriel choked out, his voice cracking with a raw, agonizing emotion he hadn't felt in four years. "Why didn't you tell me?"

Olivia looked at him, tears streaming down her exhausted face.

"Because your father told me what he would do to her if I stayed," Olivia whispered fiercely, her maternal protective instincts flaring. "He came to my dorm room the day after you left. He knew I was pregnant. He told me if I ever tried to contact you, he would have my baby killed. So I ran. I hid. I did whatever I had to do to survive."

Gabriel completely stopped breathing. The absolute, crushing magnitude of his father's betrayal hit him with the force of a freight train. His own father hadn't just forced him to leave Olivia; he had actively threatened to murder his unborn child.

"My father died three years ago, Olivia," Gabriel whispered softly, his dark eyes filling with tears. "I took over the syndicate. He can never hurt you again."

Olivia stared at him, the heavy, paralyzing fear slowly beginning to melt from her eyes.
