Chapter 2 - The Cruel Intruder

The crystal glasses on the table seemed to vibrate with the sheer, suffocating tension in the room.
Julian’s eyes were locked onto Sarah. He slowly pushed his chair back, his imposing, muscular frame shifting as he prepared to stand up. He needed to see her arm clearly.
But before Julian could even speak a single word, the sharp, aggressive clicking of high heels echoed rapidly across the dining room floor.
Monica, the restaurant’s glamorous, thirty-year-old general manager, practically sprinted toward the table. She wore a stunning red designer dress and a massive, five-carat diamond engagement ring that caught the light of the chandeliers. She was also Julian’s high-society fiancée.
Monica lunged forward and violently grabbed Sarah by the elbow, her perfectly manicured nails digging painfully into the waitress's skin. She aggressively yanked Sarah’s sleeve down, covering the scar.
"I am so incredibly sorry, Julian, darling," Monica gasped, forcing a sickly sweet, apologetic smile as she looked at her powerful fiancé. "This waitress is clumsy and completely incompetent. I told her not to serve your table."
Sarah let out a small whimper of pain, trying to pull her arm away, but Monica’s grip was like an iron vice.
"Get back to the kitchen, you filthy rat," Monica hissed venomously into Sarah’s ear, her voice dropping so low only Sarah could hear it. "If you ever show your disgusting arm to my family again, I will have you thrown out on the streets to starve."
Sarah squeezed her eyes shut, tears of pure humiliation and terror welling in her eyes. She clutched her silver serving tray, preparing to run away and hide in the shadows where she belonged.
But Julian didn't look at Monica. He didn't smile at his fiancée.
