Chapter 10 - THE HOUSE AUCTION
The foreclosure could not be stopped completely.
Too many liens.
Too much default.
Paige had enough money to save the house.
Everyone expected her to.
Margaret called from temporary housing.
“Your father won’t survive losing it.”
Paige asked, “What does he want?”
“He wants home.”
“Put him on.”
Margaret refused.
Paige visited Robert directly.
He surprised her.
“Let it go.”
“Are you sure?”
“No.”
“That isn’t the same answer.”
Robert looked toward the old house.
“I want it. I also know keeping it means asking you to carry what we did.”
Paige waited.
Robert continued.
“I don’t have the right.”
That was the first responsible sentence he had spoken.
The house sold at auction.
Not to a corporation.
To a young family with two children.
Margaret watched from across the street.
