Chapter 7 - THE SAFE IN THE CLOSET
Chloe moved fast through the hallway.
She opened Margaret’s bedroom closet and reached behind a stack of blankets.
A wall safe appeared.
Paige blocked the door.
“What are you taking?”
Chloe froze.
Then smiled.
“Jewelry.”
“Open your bag.”
“No.”
Paige called the police.
Chloe lunged toward the window.
Paige stepped aside and let her run.
The patrol car arrived before Chloe reached the back fence.
Inside the bag were no diamonds.
There were original loan agreements, blank notarized forms, Robert’s identification documents, Paige’s old tax returns, and copies of her signature.
The safe contained more.
Bank statements.
Wire transfers.
Price’s notary seal.
A ledger of payments from Eric to Chloe.
