Chapter 1 - The Shattered Pencils

The luxurious dining room of the sprawling American estate was a masterpiece of high-vaulted ceilings and polished marble floors, but the atmosphere was violently toxic.

Suddenly, a loud, agonizing crack echoed through the room.

Seven-year-old Toby hit the solid marble floor hard. His box of colored pencils shattered, sending dozens of bright colors scattering wildly across the pristine white stone. Toby, wearing a simple blue polo shirt, immediately curled into a ball, clutching his right arm against his chest as a blood-curdling, terrified scream ripped from his lungs.

Standing directly over him was his twenty-four-year-old cousin, Chloe.

Chloe wore an expensive, custom-fitted yellow designer dress. She didn't look horrified. She looked incredibly, viciously annoyed.

"Move, Toby!" Chloe yelled, brushing off her dress as if the crying child had somehow inconvenienced her. She had just violently yanked his arm and thrown him to the ground simply because he had accidentally torn her fashion sketch.

Valerie, Toby’s thirty-something mother, was across the room. Wearing a crisp white blouse and burgundy trousers, she dropped her coffee mug and sprinted to her son, sliding onto the marble to protect him.

"Toby! Honey, don't move," Valerie choked out, her hands hovering over his visibly swollen, agonizingly deformed forearm.

Before Valerie could even check his pulse, her older sister, Brenda, marched forward. Brenda wore a sharp red evening dress, her face twisted with aggressive entitlement. She aggressively pointed a manicured finger directly at Valerie’s face.

"Are you going to ruin her future over an accident?" Brenda shouted, completely ignoring the screaming child on the floor.

👉 Brenda thought she could bully her younger sister into silence, completely unaware that she had just awakened a monster.
