Chapter 4 - The Golden Child's Panic

Within eight minutes, the massive iron gates of the luxury estate buzzed open. The piercing wail of ambulance sirens shattered the quiet, exclusive neighborhood.

Two paramedics rushed through the heavy mahogany front doors, rolling a medical stretcher directly into the dining room.

Toby was shaking violently, going into mild shock from the agonizing pain. The lead paramedic knelt down, carefully cutting the sleeve of Toby’s blue polo to expose the terrifying injury.

"That's a severe displaced fracture," the paramedic stated grimly, immediately preparing a splint and an IV for pain management. He looked up at Valerie. "You said he was assaulted?"

"It was an accident!" the grandfather interrupted loudly, stepping forward and flashing a fake, charming smile. He pulled a thick money clip from his formal suit jacket. "Boys, here's ten thousand dollars for your trouble. We'll take him to a private physician. There's no need to file a formal incident report."

The paramedic looked at the cash, then looked at the grandfather with absolute disgust.

"Sir, I am a mandated reporter," the paramedic said coldly, pushing the money away. "And the police are already pulling into your driveway."

Chloe let out a high-pitched, horrified gasp. Her yellow designer dress shook as she backed into the marble wall.

"Mom!" Chloe whimpered, looking at Brenda in sheer panic. "I can't get arrested! The board of directors is arriving in an hour! If I have an active felony charge, the morality clause will automatically disqualify me!"
