Chapter 1 - The Shadow of the West Wing

The ultra-luxury Chicago mafia mansion at night was a fortress of silent terror, battered by heavy, relentless rain that lashed against the grand floor-to-ceiling windows. Inside, the enormous marble hallway gleamed under the warm, majestic glow of a towering crystal chandelier. The atmosphere was thick with a dark, suffocating mafia-family protection aura.

Every single servant in the mansion—from the head butler to the senior housekeepers—moved like ghosts. Whenever Adrien Moretti passed by, they immediately pressed themselves flat against the rich woodwork and lowered their eyes, terrified of drawing the wrath of the city’s most feared monster.

Adrien Moretti, 42, was an apex predator. Tall, heavily muscular, with broad shoulders, thick dark hair, a short beard, and intense gray eyes that could freeze blood, he wore an immaculate black three-piece suit that fit his imposing frame like armor. He was cold, exhausted, and completely intimidating.

Right now, he was emerging slowly from the dark, forbidden West Wing—the restricted zone of the mansion where state secrets, multi-million-dollar syndicate ledgers, and violent enforcers resided. No one ever entered the West Wing uninvited. No one survived long if they did.
