Chapter 3 - Catch Me If You Can

The toddler giggled—a bright, chiming sound that echoed strangely against the dark marble walls of the mafia mansion.
With a joyful little hop, she spun around on one foot like a tiny ballerina, then turned her back to him, beginning to run backward down the sprawling hallway, her soft curls bouncing with every step.
"CATCH ME IF YOU CAN!" the little girl shouted playfully, her voice ringing with absolute fearlessness.
Adrien Moretti stood frozen in the center of the grand hallway, staring after her in absolute, unadulterated disbelief. No one had ever spoken to him like that. No one had ever invited him to a game of tag in a mansion soaked in syndicate blood.
Before Adrien could even process a single thought, frantic, heavy footsteps echoed from the adjoining gallery.
A young, beautiful brunette maid with fair skin and dark hair tied back in a classic black-and-white maid uniform rushed desperately into the hallway. The moment she saw Adrien standing mere feet away from her daughter, all the color drained from her face.
