Chapter 4 - The Mother's Plea

The maid mother trembled violently, her hands pressed against the cold stone floor as tears welled up in her eyes. She looked up at the towering mafia boss, her heart hammering against her ribs like a trapped bird.
"PLEASE—DON’T HURT MY DAUGHTER," the mother begged, her voice cracking with desperate, agonizing terror. "She wandered out of the nursery! She doesn't know any better! Take everything I have, punish me, but please spare her!"
In the mafia underworld, crossing boundaries meant a death sentence. Every servant watching from the shadows squeezed their eyes shut, bracing themselves for the inevitable gunshot. They knew Adrien’s ruthless reputation; he had buried men for far less than an uninvited child wandering into his private wing.
Adrien looked down at the weeping mother, his chest heaving with cold exhaustion. He didn't speak. He didn't raise a hand.
Slowly, his intense gray eyes shifted past the trembling woman, locking onto the little girl standing a few yards away.
The toddler wasn't crying. She wasn't hiding. She was peeking curiously around her mother’s black-and-white uniform, still wearing that bright, fearless smile.

And then, she did the unthinkable. She reached one tiny hand straight out toward Adrien, offering him a chubby little palm as if inviting him to hold it.
👉 The entire mansion held its collective breath, waiting to see if the monster of Chicago would crush the tiny hand or shatter every rule he had ever lived by.
