Chapter 3 - The Locked Sanctuary

Dante’s entire muscular body became motionless. His piercing gray eyes widened in absolute, paralyzing shock.

He slowly turned his head to look at the heavy mahogany door at the end of the corridor. It was Carmela’s private sitting room. Since the day she was allegedly killed in the explosion, Dante had locked that door and forbidden a single soul from entering. He held the only key on a titanium chain around his neck.

Rosa watched in sheer confusion as the billionaire's face transformed from gentle tenderness into profound, terrifying disbelief.

"What did you say?" Dante choked out, his voice breathless and shaking.

"She has pretty brown hair," Sophia smiled innocently, pointing a tiny finger toward the door. "She told me you were sad. I talk to her through the little vent in the laundry room."

Dante stood up with blinding speed. The apex predator was completely reawakened.

"Lock down the estate," Dante roared to his massive bodyguards, his voice vibrating with lethal authority. "Nobody leaves. Nobody enters."

Rosa grabbed Sophia, pulling her behind her pale-blue uniform, terrified that her child had somehow angered the boss.

But Dante didn't look at them. He marched directly toward the heavy mahogany door. His tattooed hands violently ripped the chain from his neck. He shoved the key into the lock and twisted it. The heavy door clicked open.
