Chapter 7 - The Maid's Stand

Rosa heard the floorboard creak.
She turned around and saw the Underboss stepping out of the shadows, a suppressed weapon aimed directly at her three-year-old daughter.
The timid, cautious housekeeper instantly vanished. Driven by pure, primal maternal instinct, Rosa violently shoved Sophia behind a heavy mahogany desk.
"Don't you touch her!" Rosa screamed, her voice echoing into the hidden medical suite.
Without hesitating for a single microsecond, Rosa grabbed a heavy, solid bronze statue off the side table and hurled it with absolute, terrifying precision directly at Marco’s head.
The heavy bronze struck Marco in the shoulder, throwing off his aim. The silenced pistol fired, the bullet shattering the glass lamp right next to Rosa’s head.
Marco stumbled backward, cursing in rage as he recovered his balance. He raised the gun again, his eyes flashing with pure malice as he prepared to execute the brave housekeeper.
"You stupid peasant," Marco sneered, aiming directly at Rosa's chest.
But Marco had made a fatal miscalculation.
Rosa's scream hadn't just distracted him; it had alerted the most dangerous man in Chicago.
