Chapter 4 - The Hidden Receipt

Roman didn't answer her immediately.

He casually shifted his heavy crystal whiskey glass, sliding the small, folded white receipt directly into the palm of his tattooed hand. He kept his hands completely hidden below the edge of the white tablecloth.

He smoothly opened the paper with his thumb.

It wasn't a bill. Tessa, the observant server, had noticed the men in gray suits aggressively checking their weapons in the coatroom earlier that evening. She had also noticed Celeste discreetly nodding to them when they sat down.

The note was written in frantic, hurried handwriting: Gray suits at window. The blonde signaled them.

Roman’s blood turned to absolute ice. The calm, handsome billionaire completely vanished. The lethal, untouchable apex predator fully awakened.

He looked across the table at the beautiful woman in the midnight-blue dress. His highly perceptive eyes immediately noticed the subtle, violent trembling of her bare shoulders. He noticed the rhythmic tapping of her fingers against her leg.

He realized that the woman he had trusted, the woman wearing his diamonds, was actively orchestrating his murder right in front of his face.
