Chapter 6 - The Trap Closes

"No," Roman replied, his voice chillingly calm and echoing over the quiet piano music. "I wasn't."

Celeste’s eyes darted frantically around the room. She finally saw the massive enforcers standing directly behind the gray-suited assassins. She saw the heavy black SUVs blocking the windows.

Her entire assassination plot had violently collapsed into dust in less than sixty seconds.

The three assassins realized they were completely trapped. Before they could even reach inside their jackets, the syndicate enforcers violently clamped heavy hands down on their shoulders, pinning them to the leather booth with absolute, bone-crushing force.

Celeste hyperventilated. The arrogant, treacherous gold-digger completely vanished, replaced by a feral, cornered coward.

She looked back at Roman, pure, unadulterated terror radiating from her eyes.

"Roman... please," Celeste whimpered pathetically, her manicured hands shaking violently on the white tablecloth. "I didn't know they were here! I swear to God, I didn't know!"

An extreme, cinematic close-up captured Roman’s face. He stared directly into her eyes, the terrifying truth hanging heavily in the air between them. He felt absolutely zero human empathy for the monster sitting across from him.

"Who sent them?" Roman whispered, his voice quiet, deadly, and dripping with imminent destruction.
