Chapter 2 - The Stolen Seal

The cinematic tension in the luxurious kitchen was absolutely suffocating.

Mauricio stared at his mother, his tactical mind racing. He looked down at the thick envelope in his hand. The red wax seal holding it closed looked completely flawless at first glance. But as he ran his thumb over the edge, he felt the subtle, uneven ridge of clear glue.

The letter had been meticulously sliced open, read, and expertly resealed before the courier even handed it to him.

"You read my private legal mail, Mother?" Mauricio asked, his voice dropping to a low, lethal whisper that sent shivers down the spines of the nearby family members.

Carmen backed away, her hands shaking violently against her burgundy dress. "Mauricio, I was only trying to protect you! The attorney is lying! That letter is nothing but vicious, manipulative slander to ruin our Christmas!"

Mauricio didn't argue. He didn't yell. The terrifying restraint of his anger was infinitely more dangerous.

He ripped the envelope open, completely tearing through the fake seal. He pulled out a thick stack of medical and financial documents, stamped with the official seal of his late wife’s private trust fund.

His wife, Elena, had died of a sudden, catastrophic heart failure exactly six months ago. She was the heiress to a massive pharmaceutical empire. Upon her death, her entire fortune had legally transferred directly to Renata, with Mauricio named as the sole financial guardian to manage the funds for his daughter's medical care.

Mauricio scanned the first page of the attorney's letter.

His heart violently stopped beating. The blood completely drained from his face.

The letter wasn't about the trust fund. It was an emergency medical injunction. It contained the final, sealed toxicology report from the private coroner—a report that Carmen had spent millions trying to suppress.
