Chapter 6 - The Broken Glass

Carmen realized her entire life had just violently collapsed into dust. The high-society mask shattered, leaving a feral, desperate coward in its place.
She wasn't going to let Mauricio call the police.
With blinding speed, Carmen grabbed a heavy crystal champagne flute off the marble island and violently smashed it against the edge of the countertop. She gripped the jagged, broken stem, wielding it like a weapon.
"Put the phone down, Mauricio!" Carmen screamed, brandishing the broken glass with unhinged, wild eyes. "If you call the police, I swear to God I will tell them you were the one who bought the poison! I will frame you for everything! You will go to prison, and Renata will go into foster care!"
The family members in the background screamed in sheer horror, scrambling away from the desperate woman.
Mauricio didn't flinch. He didn't even drop the phone.
"You think a piece of broken glass is going to stop me from protecting my child?" Mauricio asked coldly.
He stepped directly toward her, moving with the terrifying, lethal grace of an apex predator.
Carmen panicked. She lunged forward, swinging the jagged crystal directly at Mauricio’s face.
But Mauricio was younger, stronger, and fueled by the absolute, unstoppable adrenaline of a father protecting his daughter. He effortlessly caught Carmen's wrist mid-air, his powerful grip locking around her arm like a steel vice.
He didn't strike her. He simply twisted her wrist with a sudden, violent torque.
