Chapter 8 - The Financial Checkmate

As the federal agents dragged Carmen past the marble island, Mauricio stepped forward.
"Oh, and Mother?" Mauricio called out smoothly.
Carmen stopped thrashing for a second, looking back with wild, terrified, tear-streaked eyes.
"The attorney just confirmed the injunction," Mauricio stated with a cold, merciless smile. "Your real estate company has been entirely seized by the federal government to pay restitution to Elena's trust fund. Your bank accounts are frozen. Your personal assets are being auctioned. You aren't just going to a maximum-security prison for the rest of your life. You are going to prison completely, irreversibly broke."
Carmen’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated horror. The one thing she cared about more than human life—her wealth and her status—had just been entirely annihilated in a single sentence.
"You ruined me!" Carmen screamed hysterically, her voice cracking with pure despair.
"No," Mauricio replied, stepping back to stand protectively in front of his little girl. "You ruined yourself."
The agents dragged the weeping, hysterical woman out of the beautiful estate and out into the cold night. Her desperate, pathetic cries faded down the driveway, ending her reign of psychological cruelty and murder forever.
The luxurious kitchen fell into a profound, heavy, and incredibly peaceful silence.
The remaining family members, entirely disgusted by Carmen's monstrous actions, quietly gave their statements to the remaining agents and left the house.
Mauricio stood alone by the marble sink, letting out a long, shuddering breath. The heavy, agonizing weight of his grief finally made sense. The monster was gone. His daughter was safe.
